On the gap between public and private

Suzy Hansen quoting James Baldwin
But I have always been struck, in America, by an emotional poverty so bottomless, and a terror of human life, of human touch, so deep, that virtually no American appears able to achieve any viable, organic connection between his public stance and his private life
Apel attributed the gap between the public and private as the working philosophy of the West, with a pragmatic scientific-technical public philosophy and a private existential philosophy. In this division there is no room for ethics, which is eschewed by the objective scientific philosophy and denied by the existential philosophy.
Grounding the quality movement in semiotics
Deming and Shewhart based the Shewhart cycle on their reading of C.I. Lewis. Could a more explicit appeal to the scientific method qua transcendental semiotics be used to develop a new approach to organizations. What would this look like?
